Shopped sounds interesting! I'll see if our library has it.
Also, I have not read Popco... I better check that, too!

A wee bit tangential, but hopefully not too much: have you seen the documentary "The Czech Dream"? It was released on DVD in the US with a foreword by Morgan Spurlock. It's about two art students coming up with a new superstore that is marketed heavily everywhere without giving any details about it: they want to see whether people will be fooled to come to the opening of it (only to find that there is nothing there). They seemed to have used the project to illustrate how easily people's opinions are swayed by huge advertising campaigns--which was a hot topic that year because there were a lot of positive ads about joining the EU, and all negative discussion was basically dampened. It was interesting, especially when regular folks were interviewed about why they like shopping. You could totally tell that for many, shopping was something cathartic after having been under the Soviet rule, and that's why anything advertised with insinuations of eternal happiness and fulfilled dreams are sold so easily.
